So after all this information the next big question is why is this important; why does it really matter that women are not as involved in engineering as men, and what do women bring to the table that is relevant and useful when discussing engineering?
The engineering workforce is still predominantly male and these traditional perceptions may result in discrimination of woman from pursuing their profession when they are joining the workforce. When discussing engineering as a topic most people know that it involves a lot of mathematics and science, but engineering also greatly requires a lot of creative out-of-the-box thinking along with an innovative imagination. In today's world with all of its advanced technology if a person can dream it and imagine it then it can generally be achieved. Men have dominated engineering for the past couple hundred years and it has worked somewhat, but women are just as smart if not smarter then males. Females have an entirely different way of looking at things and deciphering what they see and in the world of engineering this is exactly what is needed, wanted, and greatly encouraged.
"The absence of women from STEM education and careers affects more than the women; it is a missed opportunity for those fields; women bring a different perspective that shapes and influences STEM disciplines; having more women in the picture will not only help women themselves, it will also help society benefit from their expertise."
